Learning Pavilion
A primary school block for a 400-student campus near the airport, planned as a ring of classrooms around a shaded court that doubles as the assembly ground.
The school is growing faster than its 1990s buildings allow. Rather than add another corridor block, the masterplan sets a series of courtyard pavilions along the existing avenue of trees, so the campus grows as a sequence of gardens rather than a line of buildings. This is the first.
Classrooms sit under a continuous terracotta-tiled roof, each with a verandah on one side and a small garden on the other, so teaching can spill outside for most of the year. The roof is doubled with a ventilated cavity to deal with north Bengaluru's hotter summers, and the whole building is single-loaded so no classroom needs lights or fans before noon.
The structure is load-bearing fired brick with exposed concrete bands, chosen for cost, for the local masons' skill with it, and for how well it takes chalk, posters and forty years of children. Completion is planned before the 2027 academic year.
